Outdoor Learning Programs

If we provide enough space and possibilities for moving freely, then children will move as well as animals: skillfully, simply, securely, naturally.
– Dr. Emmi Pikler

Teaching children about the natural world should be seen as one of the most important events in thier lives.

Summer Camps 2025

In association with The Nest Early Learning Centre and in partnership with Stewardship Pemberton at The One Mile Lake Nature Centre, our camp are designed to immerse children in hands-on outdoor learning experiences that blend teacher-led instruction with exploratory play. Through nature-based activities, water play, hikes, and group games, campers will develop independence, build friendships, and foster a deeper appreciation for the environment.

These camps will include water play; children will need to provide their own PFD or complete a swimming competency demonstration to be able to swim without.

Camp Structure

Morning Circle Time: Each day begins with a group gathering where we introduce the day’s theme and collaboratively plan activities.

Themed Activities: Throughout the day children will engage in a mix of teacher-led games, activities and exploratory play, focusing on topics such as local wildlife, plant identification, and environmental stewardship.

Outdoor Exploration: Regular excursions within One Mile Lake Park, including nature hikes and observational studies, to provide practical learning experiences.

Prior to going on any adventures the group will talk about safety plans – involving the children in managing the risk will empower them to have a safe mindset and approach to outdoor experiences.
